Halloween Movies: Michael Myers Series in Theaters (videos)

Every Oct. 31, we celebrate the dark side of life. Built upon traditions that believed spirits returned from the dead on this night, one movie series has taken that fear to a frightening level: Halloween. The Halloween movies focus on serial killer Michael Myers. The first film debuted in 1978 and has been terrifying movie goers ever since. Michael Myers is one of the scariest characters that appears every Halloween and whether in the movie series, literature or in costume, Halloween wouldn't be the same without psycho, serial killer Michael Myers.

Spoiler Alert”

He looked like a sweet little boy with shockingly dark eyes. The year was 1963 and he didn't want to celebrate Halloween with his family including his mother and father and older sister Judith. There would be no trick-or-treating fun for little six-year-old Michael. Instead, he had more sinister plans for the evening activities. Sweet little Michael was actually a sick, murdering psychopath who

slaughtered his older sister on Halloween night. There was no future left for the little tyke than to be committed to the Smith's Grove Sanitarium, where hopefully doctors would uncover the reason for his brutal madness and help bring him back to sanity. Fifteen years in the sanitarium did little to cure Michael Myers, and he ultimately escaped only to fall into the same, psychopathic patterns. His sister was long gone, but now the 21-year-old murderer had his eyes set on Laurie Strode, a babysitter in his hometown. Unbeknownst to Michael, Laurie was actually his younger sister. One might think that type of information would cause Myers to spare her life, but it only served to fuel his murderous rage and passion.

The only person who really ever tried to help our poor psychopath, Michael Myers was his shrink from the loony bin, Dr. Sam Loomis. Not only had the Dr. tried to find Michael and bring him back to the hospital before he could kill anyone else, but he always seemed to do a good job figuring out what Michale's next plan and target would be. Not long after Myers returned to his hometown, Dr. Loomis was there trying to save Laurie from him. While Dr. Loomis would gladly return Michael to the sanitarium, he never hesitated to try and kill him to put an end to his horrific carnage. Though Dr. Loomis spent many years trying to reach the young boy, he would ultimately conclude that there was no hope for Michael Myers. He was pure evil.

Dr. Sam Loomis stated in the film, “ I met him, fifteen years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding; and even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and the blackest eyes... the devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil.”

In the end of Halloween I, Dr. Loomis shot Michael Myers six times, then watched as he fell off a

balcony. That wasn't enough to put Myers out of his misery, as by the time Dr. Loomis rushed over to where his body should be, it had disappeared.

In the end of Halloween II, Dr. Loomis tried once again to exterminate Michael Myers, and blew up a hospital's operating room, but once again, Michael Myers slipped away and continued his deathly carnage.

Interestingly, Michael Myers did not appear in the third Halloween film, but he returned in the fourth one.

In Halloween 4 it is learned that Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis survived the explosion but that Michael was comatose for the past 4 years. This should make him 31-years-old. When he wakes from the coma he learns that his younger sister Laurie Strode has died but that he has a seven-year-old niece, Jamie Lloyd. Michael returns home in order to murder little Jamie.

While we've revealed some spoilers, it must be said that as the Halloween series continues, there are many plot twists and turns. We won't reveal everything, but think you should know that if you continue to watch the full series, you'll find things aren't what you may think they are.

John Carpenter’s “Halloween” premiered on October 25th, 1978, in Kansas City, Missouri. After performing successfully in the Midwest, it then moved on to Chicago and New York. From there, it had a platform release across the country, playing in cities all across the U.S.

Over 35 years later, the movie has made its money back more than 200 times, making it one of the most successful independent horror movies of all time, just behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Blair Witch Project. The movie is based around the story of Michael Myers who, at age 6, brutally murdered his sister on a cold Halloween night in 1963. After spending 15 years in a mental hospital, he escapes and returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, with a plan to kill.
“This movie is well deserving of another play on the big screen,” said Fathom Events CEO John Rubey. “We cannot wait for audiences to experience this twisted tale in theaters for Halloween.”
