Her father stumbles upon a castle ruled by an evil beast, who wants to keep Belle's father as his hostage. Belle (also known as Beauty) is full of love, kindness, compassion and generosity and offers to remain with the Beast in his castle in place of her father.

It is because Belle has such characteristics of selfless love and compassion that she can see past the Beast's gruff exterior to the man within. Unbeknownst to Beauty, the Beast is actually a prince who was cast by a witch's spell as punishment for being rude to her. Of course, like all fairy tales, true love breaks the spell and Beauty and the Beast live happily ever after.
