Carlos Descendants Costume

Carlos Standup
If your kids are fans of the Disney Descendants movie, then you might have noticed that Descendants Halloween costumes are in high demand this year. Unfortunately, there is such high demand that costumes for Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos are selling out quickly. In fact, if you've been searching for a Carlos Descendants costume, you might be dismayed. There really isn't much available and this includes the Disney store. Is it possible that Disney simply didn't foresee how big the movie was going to be? After the movie came out there was high demand for Jay and Carlos dolls and these were hard to come by as well. The same is true about the Disney Descendants costumes. Not only are Mal and Evie Isle of the Lost costumes sold out just about everywhere, but Jay and Carlos Descendants costumes are nowhere to be found. So, what's a kid to do? Well, you're in luck. If you have a boy (or girl) who wants to be Carlos for Halloween, have no fear. You can make your own Carlos Descendants costume. Read below for these tips, tricks and ideas that will easily transform anyone into Carlos De Vil.

Carlos Descendants Costume: Hair

Carlos De Vil is Cruella De Vil's son (if you weren't aware, De Vil is actually “devil”), and while Cruella has her devilish qualities, Carlos chose to walk a different path than his mother. There is no mention of who Carlos' father may be, but he has one noticeable trait passed down from his mother: his hair. Carlos' hair, like his mother's, is two-toned. While Cruella's hair is split down the middle white and black, Carlos' hair is white with black roots. Since you aren't really going to find a Carlos wig for sale (c'mon Disney, where's your marketing team?), you can create this look yourself.

Depending upon your hair texture, you may want to flip your head upside down and blow dry it straight. This will give the spiky look Carlos has. You can use white face makeup (the kind in your Halloween make up kit) to create the white look. This is safe for hair and can wash out easily.

Some people might prefer to make a white look with baby powder, but due to the talc content, it isn't advisable. It simply isn't a good idea to breathe in that baby powder throughout the evening. While you could probably achieve the look using flour or cornstarch, you might find that just adding some

white, costume makeup not only gives the color you want, but also provides a substance that makes it easy to spike and style the hair. Remember, you don't have to look like an exact copy of Carlos, but since the hair is such an identifying characteristic, you will want to make your hair look as close as possible to Carlos' style. Just add some of the makeup to your hands and work it in your hair. Put more makeup on the tips of the hair and spike it up.

Temporary Hair Color: White

Carlos Descendants Costume: Makeup

Some boys might be wary about wearing makeup with their costume, so it isn't a necessity. If however, you want to create a more realistic and similar look to Carlos, you can add a small bit of eyeliner and fill in the eyebrows. A natural or skin-toned (your skin tone, not Carlos') face powder may be applied just to give a smooth, evened out look to the complexion. Again, this isn't a necessity, but for some who really want to recreate the look, similar eyebrows and adding a bit of definition to the eyes can go a long way. Remember, it's Halloween. It's okay to wear makeup!

Carlos Descendants Costume: Jacket and Shirt

White and Black Jacket
Your first step is to determine how you want to create your costume. Everyone had different crafting experience and some may feel more comfortable using a sewing machine than others. If you don't want to sew, don't worry, you don't have to. You can create a Carlos costume without sewing, though you will have to sacrifice a few key pieces. That's not a big issue, though. You can make a costume that will clearly show Carlos' true character and essence, even if you don't have a sewing machine and don't want to sew.

Those who like to sew will find that they can create a Carlos costume that looks authentic and genuine.

Carlos wears a multicolored leather jacket with fur trim. The sleeves are red leather with zippered sleeves. One side of the jacket is white leather with white fur, and the opposite side is black leather
with black fur and a red zipper. There is no doubt that this is the most time-consuming portion of the costume. It is unlikely that anyone wants to buy a leather jacket solely for the purpose of creating a Halloween costume. Carlos also wears a black tee-shirt that has white, vertical splotches on it.

Faux Black Fur
Now the decision is really up to you. There are many low-cost alternatives you can use to create a similar look, as well as those that are more expensive and time consuming. You could get a vinyl or faux leather jacket and spray paint the sleeves and sides in order to create a similar look. You could get a jacket that is white and black and has red sleeves. You could wear a red sleeved shirt and put a vest over it. You can get faux fur from craft or fabric stores and use velcro to attach them to a vest or jacket in order to make the fur trim. You can stitch red sleeves (cut them off a shirt) to a short sleeve black shirt in order to make the underlying piece. The choice is really yours. Those who want to look as authentic as possible might opt for spray painting a faux leather jacket the appropriate colors then attaching fur trim with velcro. If the jacket is only going to be worn once, you could use a hot glue gun to permanently secure the fur trim.

Any jacket that boldly features the color pattern, will essentially work, and might be simplest for those on a time limit. Adding the fur trim can instantly transform any jacket into the perfect Carlos Descendants costume. If you don't want to invest a lot of money, time and effort in the jacket, buy one with a similar color scheme, then add the fur trim to the collar.

It's up to you to decide if you're comfortable choosing a similar style jacket or if you want to create a
Faux White Fur
jacket that is of the same design by using spray paint. The fur trim, however, can really make your jacket look authentic, whether you select a leather jacket, faux leather or sweat jacket.

Now for the shirt. Those who don't want to spend a lot of money can opt for wearing a black tee-shirt under the jacket. Others might want to use a white or gray fabric paint to put some streaks on the shirt. You can also find black shirts with similar patterns to wear. The shirt isn't a main focal point, but you can see from the photos of Carlos that the white streak in the middle of the shirt actually is a focal point. You might find that adding this white splotch to the shirt is an important enough step. If you don't want to use fabric paint, take some of the white makeup you used for the hair and apply it down the middle of a black tee shirt.

Carlos Descendants Costume: Belts

In addition to the jacket, Carlos wears two belts. One is a black belt with a half white, half black X on the buckle. This might be tricky to find, but you could actually paint an X on a belt buckle with acrylic paints. You could dip a toothpick into the paint and use it to draw out the X shape. You might find it is easiest to turn the belt buckle vertically and paint a white “V” shape, then turn it the other
Belt with large buckle face
way and paint a black “V” shape, with the to lower points of the “V” shape touching. This would give you the “X” shape needed when the belt is turned horizontally.

The second belt is black with red studs on it. You really have a lot of flexibility here and could choose any belt that is black and red. You could simply spray paint half of a red belt black or half of a black belt red. You could also get a solid black belt, and hot glue red, square gems on it to make the pattern.

Either way, you'll find that it isn't too difficult to create belts that really complement your costume.

Carlos Descendants Costume: Pants

White and Black Basketball Shorts
Carlos' pants are white and black with white, padded stitching on the portion of each leg. You could stitch two pairs of pants together for this look, but that is an awful lot of work. You could subsitute any pair of white and black shorts for an easy solution. You could also stitch or even hot glue two rectangular white patches to each side of the leg to make it look more authentic. There is black ribbing that comes from underneath the shorts. You could add black ribbing or bypass this step
entirely. Depending upon the weather, those who are in colder climates may want to wear black thermal leggings under a pair of shorts to stay warm and add a more genuine touch to the look.

Carlos Descendants Costume: Key chain

Gold Wallet Key Chain
While you may come up with your own ideas and substitutions for the shorts, you might not want to skimp on the key chain. This looks more difficult to create than it actually is. You can get some faux fur and either select one in black and white, or try a black one then color the ends white.

You can choose white fur, then actually color the black portion with a sharpie, or permanent marker. Try thin, diluted fabric paints if you want to paint the fur. Attach the fur to a gold, key chain and voila. If you don't have a gold key chain, you can put it on a string, twine or even yarn and attach it to the belt or your pocket. It doesn't have to be perfect. This is for your Halloween costume and is unlikely you will wear it again.

Carlos Descendants Costume: Boots

Carlos wears a pair of black and red work boots. You can easily accommodate this by wearing any work or combat boots with your costume. You aren't limited to red and black colors either. If you want to give them a red look, you can try brushing some red shoe polish over them or sponge it on with a rag to give a weathered appearance.
Making your own Carlos Descendants costume doesn't need to be expensive, time-consuming or
difficult. Use your creativity and your own imagination and you're certain to come up with some great ideas.

If you want, you can keep following Amazon to see if they add a Carlos Descendants costume to the store. Right now they have Mal, Evie, Maleficent, Audrey and a few more costume accessories.
